The theory of evolution might be wrong or no one just wanted to believe that their ancestors are some wild apes, but this doesn’t cover the fact that humans become more creative and intelligent as time passes. Since the first information database, writing on stones, human has never stopped to try developing new inventions that can help preserve and publish information. From writing on piles of stones, animal and leaf were then used; lastly, papers were invented by the Egyptians, though some speculation claims that it was the Chinese, but more importantly, it has been a media for storing information. Even though intelligence increases and more inventions came in the history of mankind, but what doesn’t change is the importance of information to human. Since the enlightenment era, the precursor of human’s desire to learn, books have been increasingly demanded by people. These compilations of papers were considered as one of the best inventions of all time. In 1988, the first 36 kb/sec internet was introduced along with the World Wide Web, or better known as WWW or website. From that point in time, this world wide information sharing media has grown rapidly into a trend among many groups of people.
The first few websites that were available in the early internet were a blast to everyone as it contains a lot of virtual information, meaning no more huge library of thick and dusty books. Also, since the e-mail was invented, internet has been more and more used as a mean of global communication media. From then on, the worlds of internet change from being only a massive virtual storage into a media for people to connect with others across the globe. Friendster, MySpace, BlogSpot, and MSN Messenger have been the recent booming sites that offer everyone to publicly speak their mind in the internet.
Facebook is the latest hype of this category. This website offers users to have an account and profile that allows other users to add them as their virtual friend and communicate through a system called “wall”. This site is very unique because it is also preinstalled with some fascinating features. One of them is the photo feature, where one can a friend can “tag” someone in a picture so their name will be on the site and it’s directly connected to the tagged person’s profile. Another unique feature of this site is the application feature, where one can install many interesting and fun applications such as private quiz, quotes, graffiti, fantasy football manager, until something like chocolate fantasy. This website also offers a gift shop and everything in it cost $1. Even though the gifts are virtual, but many still buy it to send to their friends.
From time to time, human constantly changes. Their way of thinking keeps “evolving” to the next level. Communication and information also keeps moving forward, and the result is the internet. It used to be a tool for people to connect around the globe, but now it turns into a lifestyle. We can just hope this trend will lead to a brighter future for humankind.
